IABA Youth Committee needs new talent... We recognize how much our community has grown since we first established the youth committee at IABA 2 years ago. The community leaders were pushing for spirited youth to take on the responsibility of galvanizing the rest of the brothers and sisters in the way of working towards Islamic ideals and the greater good of the community. Five of us humbly accepted the task to try our best, and for 2 years we have been working to reach these goals and expound these ideals. Now it's time for the torch of leadership be passed on so new faces can bring fresh ideas to the committee. On July 30th (after Salaat), we will give the youth a chance to select three people for Youth Committee positions: Vice President, Public Relations, and Secretary. Any youth that is a part of IABA may run for a position, provided that they are 15-25 years of age. So what is the Youth Committee? It is a group of energized youth, working under IABA, assigned with the task of mobilizing our guys and girls, as opposed to being some hierarchy of individuals. The titles we have are just to help organize. **The selection process is being held to provide equal opportunity to all eligible youth to run for a position - these do not supercede any other IABA election and are done in conjunction with the Executive Committee. How to Run In order to run for a position, you must nominate yourself or a friend. The nomination slip is attached to this email. An individual may nominate 3 people for 3 seperate positions. Fill it out and send it to us using 1 of the two ways: • via email ( Sabrina sbandali@mail.utexas.edu or Azhar thynksheraze@hotmail.com ) • Nomination forms may also be handed in to either one of these individuals on Saturday (July 16 or July 23) during the program. (We will call and confirm to make sure nominees are willing to run for a position.) **DEADLINE is Thursday July 28th to hand in nomination forms! Selection Day On Saturday, July 30th, nominees should be prepared to give a 1-minute talk on 1) who they are, 2) why they would be good for the IABA community, and 3) what they would bring to the Youth Committee. Ballots will be used to count votes and a respected elder of the community will count the ballots. The winner of the election will be announced the following Saturday. Only youth 13 and older may vote in the election. We strongly encourage you guys and girls to take initiative and nominate your friends and yourselves! Parents and dear elders, do your best to encourage your daughters and sons to take this great learning opportunity to strengthen their leadership skills. It has been stated before; the youth leaders of today will be those who lay the foundation for the leaders of the Muslim community in the future. Any questions can be forwarded to Brs. Sajjad, Azhar or Sr. Sabrina at any time. Best of luck to everyone! Regards, The IABA Youth Committee |
